The girls had lots of well thought out questions and we really enjoyed having them.

Shop Hop 2010 and More

Let’s start off with some great Shop Hop news. It was a terrific Shop Hop and we were so glad to welcome each of you to our shop.

I know you are all waiting to hear who the prize winners were, so here it is.

Arnold’s Attic, a new reproduction fabric line by Barbara Brackman for Moda has arrived and we love it.

 

Barbara's friend, Arnold,  would occasionally send her samples of fabric he had found in his attic dating from his mother’s quilting days. As she received more and more, she used the samples as the basis for her newest fabric. I'll share some links to follow Barbara’s story and learn more about this great new line of reproduction fabrics.

Just a quick reminder of our fun Saturday afternoon event - From 1 - 3 PM we will be exploring "Color with Friends".  Just bring a fat quarter of some colors you wish you could wear, think you might be able to wear..... you know, the ones you're just not sure of.  We'll share swatches AND tell each other the TRUTH about what does and does not make you look your best!!!  Just $5 reserves your spot!!

We are looking forward to getting out of the heat and enjoying a few days at the International Quilt Festival in Long Beach.  (There just might be a space or two still available.............)  Days filled with quilty inspiration and shopping and nights relaxing on the beautiful Queen Mary.  We're busily preparing for our booth in the vendor mall, as well.  We've been creating new Jelly Roll and Charm Pack combinations which we will be offering there --- but YOU deserve first pick!!!!  Stop in this Saturday and you will receive the 13% discount on these items that we will be offering in the booth next weekend!!!

Zoe's Fourth of July Sale

You may remember that we usually run a special sale on fat-quarters each 4th of July during the early morning hours.  We can't do that this year, as the 4th falls on a Sunday - soooooooooo-

we're going to hold it ALL DAY SATURDAY.  That's right, all day Saturday, from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM our pre-cut fat-quarters, half-yard cuts, fat-eighths, and end of bolt pieces will be 40% off!!!!  We'll see you there!!!!

Great Ways to Beat the Heat

We have just received word that the rooms on the Queen Mary have been remodeled so we’re looking forward to seeing what they have done there. Update on the Civil War Tribute Block of the Month Project

Last Saturday, the CW Tribute BOM group met to enjoy a wonderful presentation by Roberta Bowen. The CW topic for our 6^th group was the Battle of the Ironclads. It is easy to tell that Roberta loves history. Her lectures and presentations are inspiring to hear and her collections of historical and antique items provide so much insight to the subject. Although the blocks are not necessarily tied to the CW historical topic, it seems to make the time we spend, cutting and sewing each block, more interesting when we can recall the information that was shared at each group session. In fact, we decided that this months block could represent the turret and cannons mounted on each of the ships.

A special reminder about the July CS Tribute group-we will meet on Saturday, July 17th at 10 AM. Don’t forget and remember to bring your blocks and projects to share.

Here is the Scoop

We are so excited to share our shop with Bren Bornyasz of Brensan Studio this Saturday for her Ice Cream Sociable and Trunk Show. Here is what is what you have to look forward to -  as Bren writes..

“Summer is finally here!  Although I must admit, the last couple of days have been

really, really nice, but I know it won?t last.  Sigh.

 

You are invited to join me (Bren) and the gang at Zoe's Trunk for Ice Cream, THIS

Saturday, June 19th, from 10:00 to 1:00.  Yes, really, Ice Cream in a Quilt Store

with all that fabulous fabric!  Those of us who stay in the valley for the summer

should get together in spite of the heat, so Mary (Zoe's) and I decided to treat you

all to ice cream.

 

As an extra bonus during the Ice Cream Sociable, all of the rayon batiks, shirtings

(more on that in a minute) and all of the Brensan Studios patterns will be 15% off.

I will bring a rack full of garments I have made from various patterns and you are

invited to spend some time visiting and looking at the garments while you are here.

    

 

OK, what about the Shirting Fabric thing?  Did you read right? Can it really be

found??!

You Bet and we have a really nice supply on order which is promised to be here in

time for our Ice Cream Sociable.

 

Shirting fabric is 100 percent cotton, but woven in a much lighter weight than

traditional quilt cotton.  Think of your husband's shirt, lightweight, breathable,

washable, dryable, yadda, yadda, yadda.  Now add a little color in the mix and

things can get real exciting.    Mary and I found a fabulous shirting fabric

supplier who has all their fabrics made in Japan (so this is the good stuff), and

the prices are fabulous!  You would expect to pay $12 to $15 (or more) for these

fabrics, but they will range from about $9.00 to $12.95 (about), so just about the

same price as quilt cottons, but a much softer and lighter hand.  These fabrics were

designed for garments, and specifically for shirts and blouses.  Ladies, there is

something here for you.

 

OH, and there's one more thing . . . . .

I have ladies ask me all the time what color they should wear.  Even those of us who

work with color everyday are our own worst enemies, so I had an idea, but it will

need a group of us and a tiny bit of sharing.

 

Announcing . . . . . . . Color with Friends  . . . . Saturday, July 17, 1:00 to 3:00

at Zoe's Trunk.

 

This is a fun event where we can all play with what colors we should wear and get

the opinion of a room of other ladies who, trust me, will be honest!

 

The way it will work is that each person attending will go through their stash at

home (and their closet, too) and bring any fabrics/garments that are a color you

think would be helpful to the event.  If it is fabric, we will ask that you share a

very tiny snippet of the fabric with someone who may discover they look fabulous in

the color so they can go forth and find other fabric for their personal projects.

Everyone will get a chance to hold up any colors (as many as they like) and get the

reaction of the group.  Please bring a small Ziploc bag for your samples.

 

There will a $5.00 fee for this event which you can pay that day, but you are asked

to RSVP to me (sales@brensan.com) or to Zoe's Trunk (quilts@zoestrunk.com) PLEASE

NOT TO BOTH!  If several of your friends are coming, please include their names in

the email so we can keep a total count.

The Good News

 

The heat is on and you are invited to an old-fashioned ice-cream "sociable"!!  Bren of Brensan Studios will be on hand to show off her newest patterns with a summer-time twist.  She will have LOTS of samples on hand for you to see and enjoy.  Attendees will receive a coupon to apply toward purchases made that day.  Ice-cream, Inspiration and instant savings -- a perfect trio for a perfect day!!!! That is Saturday, June 19^th, 10 AM to 1 PM.

 

 

 

We are currently taking new participants in our monthly "Fat Quarter Roulette."  This creative group meets the first Saturday of the month to see which of them wins the next quilt's worth of blocks.  You can see the group of blocks grow as the month progresses on our clothesline.  Ask any of us for details. 

 

Party with Patrick will meet this coming weekend to put together two summery dragonfly placemats or a table-runner - your choice.   The $20 fee includes the fabric kit and pattern.  You can join in the fun by picking up your kit at any time, but those who attend the work session receive a $10 gift certificate.  Of course, goodies are served!!!  It's a PARTY!!!!!!!

 

Don't forget that June begins our "Little Green Card" summer savings promotion.  You must start the card in June (with 10% savings on your purchases) to get the bigger savings as the heat continues in July and August!
