Two From One Jelly Roll Quilts by Pam and Nicky Lintott published by D & C Publishing

 

The 4^th book from Pam & Nicky (mother & daughter) is a collection of

18 Designs to Make Your Fabric Go Further.

If you have a “jelly roll” sitting in your stash and can’t make up your mind what pattern to use, this may be the answer to your dilemma. Each pattern uses only one half of a Jelly Roll along with background fabric. This is a great resource book for your quilt book library.

Stash Books has another great book out. Simplify is a collection of projects using precuts and left over fabrics for projects for your home.

Zoe's Trunk Shop Hop Feature

We love seeing all our Shop-Hoppers. Your enthusiasm and energy is contagious and we welcome it!

Pineapple style quilts are great ways to use all of those scraps we so diligently save from each quilt project. Just remember, there are no ugly fabrics in scrap quilts.

Gyleen Fitzgerald, the resourceful quilter/artist behind this new and innovative tool, has a book with wonderful designs and ideas for you.

Vintage Notions

 

Just arrived-Amy Barickman’s newest publication, Vintage Notions. This book is a wonderful treasure of needle arts, kitchen tips, home decoration and ideas to improve the lives of women in the early 20^th century. Amy’s source for this book is based on material from The Woman’s Institute of Domestic Arts and Sciences which was founded in 1916. Amy writes:

After discovering newsletters from the Institute  and purchasing them based on the beautiful illustrations, I began reading the editorial writing  and was compelled to rescue and introduce the content in a modern format…

As I have been following Amy’s blog (especially about this book) I have been anxiously awaiting this arrival. The reproduction illustrations are beautiful and bring life to a time when “home-art” was a very important part of every woman’s life. Some of us even remember taking Home Economics or belonging to Future Homemakers of America (FHA).

I am not old enough to recall or know about the Woman’s Institute of Domestic Art but as a granddaughter of that generation, I know the benefits of the time as I recall learning to embroider at Grandma’s house. We would go to the little 5 and Dime store on Main (Gilbert Rd) and purchase a pre-printed pillow case set or dish towel, some DMC  thread (they were 3 cents each), another embroidery hoop and stay busy for the next 2 weeks.

 

 Take a good look at this book next time you visit Zoe's Trunk. I know you will find it a treasure for your own collection.

Calendar Quilt Kits Are Ready

If you are like us (and thousands of other Phoenix-area quilters) the one thing you will gladly put off during the summer is hand-stitching a binding to a quilt. The last thing we need, with the AC slaving away, is the weight of a quilt draped across our laps. So what shall we do? Sneak Peek

Wait until you get a peek at the fabric we unpacked today. This is the Moda Quilt for a Cause new line called Collections Charity.

And this only 1 of 26 prints we received. This line is designed by Mark Dunn, president of the Moda Company, under the Howard Marcus line. All of the fabric designs in the Quilt for a Cause are based on antique quilts  and the proceeds from the sell of these fabrics are given the charities that the Moda Company selects.

New Books On the Shelf

We have just added 5 great new books to the bookshelf and I don't think they will be there long! Each book is full of new ideas and old ideas done in a new way.

The first one on the list is Kim Schaefer's Calendar Quilts 12 Months of Fun Fusibles Projects from C&T Publishing. We all love her fun designs so much, we are putting together some kits for one of her projects to get you started.

Charming Wall Quilts All Year 'Round!

 

Kim's imaginative backgrounds and fun fusible patterns are fast, fun projects.

Gwen Marston had some great ideas in her previous books. Quilters loved her designs and got really creative with them. As Gwen saw the photos coming back, she put together this book, sharing the ideas and photos that she received, plus 60 new designs.  Liberated Quiltmaking ll from AQS Publishing is a perfect follow-up to her previous book, Liberated Quilts. 

Next on the list of new books is Jelly Roll Quilts and More also from AQS Publishing. Kim Einmo has put together a great book of patterns and ideas for those Jelly and Sweet (calorie-free) rolls we have been collecting. I've picked out 2 of her patterns to get started on.

Jan Krantz has just published another great book. Quick Diamond Quilts and Beyond from C&T Publishing has 12 great quilts patterns without those pesky inset seams. The book also has tips for selecting fabrics that will make your Diamond quilt shimmer and shine and a collection of great gallery quilts to expand your quilting imagination. 

And then there is this book-

I love architecture. I love Art Deco. And I love this book. Don Linn (Mr. Quilt) has given us a book of ideas and techniques to help take these ideas to the cutting board and sewing machine and create an Art Deco Quilt. There are instructions to create one quilt in his new book Design Art Deco Quilts , from C&T Publishing, as well as a photo gallery of 11 stunning quilts for more ideas  and a visual history of Art Deco Style and Architecture.
